The executive director of the Virginia Lottery has given her opinion that online gambling in the U.S. is inevitable and she wants to make sure that the state of Virginia is prepared to deal with this new opportunity once it has cleared the legal hurdles. Paula Otto is quoted as saying, “It’s hard to say what the future will hold, but if we continue with certain products, there is probably little or no growth from year to year,” When asked if that future might involve online gambling, Otto replied, “In my view, it’s not if but when.”
Paula Otto has also predicted that the Powerball and Mega Money super lotteries will result in a nation-wide lottery game that can be played by anyone of legal age within the United States. Virginia has always been one of those states that has tried its best to avoid casino games, but with a weakened economy, that is likely to change.
