US Military Restricted From Gambling Over The Internet

The Pentagon has outlined the details of its policy on Internet usage by all branches of the US military. Active personnel will be permitted to use the Internet and social web sites such as Twitter and Facebook. In 2007, the US Marines were banned from using any social media site, but this new policy gives all branches equal access. US troops have always been known to contact their family members through letters. With access to the Internet and the ability to use social media sites, it will be so much easier for US soldiers to keep in touch with family.

Unfortunately, online gambling is still a restricted activity. Troops have been known to gamble on their down time to help relieve stress or take away from the thoughts of things back home. Online gambling had become so popular among military personnel that the US government has actively tried to find ways to prevent it. The US passed the UIGEA in 2006 which makes it illegal for banks to process online gambling transactions, but their is pending legislation in Congress that could effectively regulate the online gambling industry in the US. Online gambling is a restricted activity for US military personnel, but you can almost bet that some of the soldiers will find a way to play their favorite online casino games or play a few hands of online poker.
