The Politics of the Online Casino Industry

online casino industry politics

Many politicians on a federal level are ignorant when it comes to the
online gambling industry. Anything that vaguely relates to gambling is
something that the politicians immediately want to control and restrict.

Their is a hypocrisy when it comes to gambling in 2010. Politicians
continue to offer reasons why online gambling should be restricted,
but they support other forms of gambling. How can a politician
accept one form of gambling and restrict another when both forms
of the activity have relatively the same positive and negative aspects.

In 2006, the US Congress passed the Ports Security Bill which included
the UIGEA which is set to go into effect in June. The UIGEA is a new law
that will restrict gambling transactions that relate to online casinos,
sports betting, and online poker. Some of the politicians wanted to
restrict US citizens from being able to transact with gambling sites.
This is a part of the hypocrisy, because these same politicians added
a loophole to the legislation that allows gambling transactions on
horse races, lottery games, and within the fantasy sports industry.

It would be interesting to learn why some forms of online gambling aren’t
being targeted, while online casinos and poker rooms are being restricted.
