The New Hampshire Lottery will be one of the first state organizations to launch an online casino within the United States. State legislators have complained because they weren’t informed about the state’s plan to launch an online casino. These complaints pushed back the launch of the casino from July to August. Lottery revenue has been falling in New Hampshire and this is a new venture to bring in extra revenue for state projects. This will be a US online casino but it will only be available to New Hampshire residents. It will avoid problems with the UIGEA because every player will need to visit a payment center in New Hampshire to make a deposit within the casino.

The federal government has stated that online gambling is illegal in all forms, but nothing has been said about the New Hampshire plan. It is likely that the DOJ will ignore the developments in New Hampshire, because this online casino gambling venture involves the state government.

A New York resident has been arrested by New Jersey police for suspicion of running an online sports betting operation for the Lucchese crime organization. Brian R. Cohen has been formally charged with money laundering and operating an illegal online gambling business. Cohen was arrested as he returned to the United States from Costa Rica.

He is now free on $100,000 bail but the judge ordered him to turn over his passport. Over 30 members of the Lucchese family have already been indicted on various charges which includes two top members of the mafia family, Ralph Perna and Nicodermo Scarfo. While online gambling is a grey area of the law within the United States, sports betting is illegal under the Wire Act.
