Gambling was once legal within the island nation of Taiwan, but it is illegal right now. The Taiwanese government has gotten very aggressive when it comes to stomping out gambling activity. Their have been instances when the Taiwanese government has arrested citizens for playing too many games of Mahjong even when no money was involved. They have attempted to stop potential gamblers before they even place a single bet on a game that they enjoy playing.

All gambling is restricted on the main island, but Taiwan does allow some forms of gambling in
select locations on offshore islands. Unfortunately, all Taiwanese gamblers will need to do
some traveling to play their favorite casino games in a land-based casino. The easy alternative
would be to play casino games at some of the top online casinos while on the mainland.

Just recently, their were 21 gamblers and 6 employees arrested at an illegal casino near Taipei. The police entered the casino disguised as gamblers and arrested everyone inside. Unfortunately, the Taiwanese government is against online gambling as well but they are unable to do anything about it when the online casinos are licensed and operated outside of their legal jurisdiction. The Taiwanese government could legalize online gambling and rake in extra revenue for government programs, but they continue to resist almost all forms of gambling for residents of the mainland.
