Ryanair Holdings PLC, the company that owns Ryanair, recently announcement that
it will scrap some of its routes within the UK and Ireland, due to the heavy
airport charges being imposed by European airports during this financial crisis.



Ryanair has built its business model by keeping costs to the minimum and
then keeping the discount fares. Earlier this summer, Ryanair Chief
Executive Michael O’Leary announced a plan to ban checked luggage,
eliminate airport check-in, and offer online casino games on its planes.



Stop right there. They announced a plan to offer online casino games
on their airplanes. This is a brilliant idea, especially for a budget
airline. Offer the passengers something to do while they fly, and
the profits from the online gambling can be used to further reduce
the cost of tickets without taking away some of the essentials that
airline passengers really need.



If you’ve ever taken a flight that was anything over 5 hours, you know
how important it is to find something to do while on the plane. A person
can only sleep for so long, and their is very little else to do onboard.
Online gambling is something that really makes the time pass by, and
by offering online casino games with betting limits, the airlines can
make a handsome profit and the passengers can have a more enjoyable journey.



Cruise lines are able to offer casino games on their cruise ships once they
enter international waters, so why can’t the airlines begin accepting bets
at an online casino, once the airplane enters international airspace?



If an American airline began offering online casino games on their international
flights, they’d be overwhelmed with new customers. Online gambling isn’t the
best opportunity for quick regional flights, but it’s perfect for any of the
several long-haul flights that tourists and business travelers take everyday.
