The biggest shocker in the online poker industry is the decision by Ultimate Bet to sign an adult film actress as one of their newest sponsors. Samantha Ryan, an adult film actress, has been featured in 165 different porn movies. Some of the most popular movies are “War of the Girls”, “All By Myself” and many that are too explicit to even mention.

This is a strange choice because Samantha Ryan doesn’t seem to have any poker experience. She hasn’t cashed in at any of the top poker tournaments, and her day job is a bit controversial even for some of the most liberal poker players. She will be taking a break from her adult film career to make her debut at the WSOP and to start playing within online poker tournaments.

With the signing of an adult film star, a sportsbook should begin offering odds on who will be the next person signed on as a sponsor of Ultimate Bet. It would be interesting to see the likes of Betty White, Peewee Herman, or even Mr-T playing in the WSOP or playing poker online.

Ladbrokes Poker, the leading online poker room for UK players, has announced that the latest member of their stable of poker professionals is Shane Lynch of the popular boy band, BoyZone. Shane will now represent Ladbrokes Poker and their UK team of poker professionals at live events like the World Poker Tour or World Series of Poker and within online tournaments.

It may seem odd to see a member of a boy band being recognized as a poker professional, but he’s not the first celebrity to be sponsored by an online poker room. A statement was released by Ladbrokes Poker shortly after announcing that Lynch was now a member of their poker team. The head of Ladbrokes Poker, Kate McLennan was quoted as saying: “Shane is the perfect ambassador for Ladbrokes Poker. He’s a great guy and totally down to earth.” She goes on to say, “We want to show that poker is for everyone. We’re not like other sites that spend huge amounts on poker professionals that their players will never be able to relate to. With Shane we want to show anyone can give it a go and have fun”. It will be interesting to see if Shane can play online poker as well as he could dance and sing as a member of Boyzone dance group.
