The Commerce Casino in California has made it public that they support a ban on federal licensing of online poker. This casino hosts some of the most prestigious poker tournaments in California, and they even host daily poker tournaments for their customers. Many poker players are in disbelief that the Commerce Casino would put their interests ahead of the rights of poker players, and some have even decided to boycott the casino as long as they support the poker ban.

The executive director of the Poker Players Alliance, John Pappas said, “Members of the PPA, and poker players nationwide, are outraged that the Commerce Casino, the largest poker room in the nation, opposes Federal legislation that would protect players’ rights and access to online poker. They are angry and want to make their voices heard.” Poker players are being advised to contact the casino and express their disappointment. If the casino continues to support the federal ban, the PPA may even call on their members to begin boycotting the Commerce Casino.

The population of the South American country of Chile is almost 17 million and it has a growing market of online poker players. All forms of gambling in Chile is legal and widely popular. Chileans
are able to enjoy land-based casinos, sports betting, horse racing, and even online gambling.

Gambling was legalized in 1990, but their were land-based casinos operating in the country before then. Any laws that had banned gambling were often ignored by law enforcement up until it was legalized. Poker has not always been a popular game in Chile but it is gaining momentum with a recent surge in new Chilean players at the online poker rooms. Sports betting and horse racing have always been the strongest forms of gambling within the country, but online poker continues to gain momentum with it’s television exposure, spanish WPT poker tournaments.

The Chilean government does not license online casinos or poker rooms within its borders, but players are not prohibited from gambling online at online casinos, poker rooms, or sportsbooks. They can also gamble at one of the fifty-seven land-based casinos within the country that accept bets in US Dollars. The gross revenue from gambling at land-based casinos is hovering at $24.8 million per year, while plenty of citizens are gambling at the online casinos & poker rooms.
