British Colombia was the first to launch a legal online casino in Canada, but it’s no longer accepting new players, and it has shut down all operations due to internal problems. When they first launched, their was a surge in new player signups at the online casino. It was the first in the country, and they should have expected the high level of traffic that it received in the beginning.

Unfortunately, the online casino wasn’t able to survive very long. The government closed the online casino with no confirmed date on when they will re-open to the public. In Canada, the provincial governments can legally operate an online casino but their are no licenses being offered to land-based casino operators within the country or abroad.

This is a perfect example of why online casinos should not be run by the government. The government needs to license out the online casino operations to established operators that have some expertise in the online arena. The Canadian government should have consulted within the Kahnawake Tribe in Montreal that has been licensing online casinos within their tribal land for years. Unfortunately, the provincial governments in Canada have decided to do things their way, and now look at the mess that their in. They need to leave the gambling business to the experts.

Canada is working towards legalized online gambling by giving the provinces the ability
to choose whether or not to legalize the activity and allow state government to regulate it.

Just recently, Quebec took the first step towards a regulated online casino & poker industry. It
seems that the thought of how much Quebec will gain by legalizing online gambling was just too
much for the provincial government of Ontario. Dalton McGuinty, the Ontario Premier, has already
hinted that his government may be changing their laws to legalize online casino gambling.

The Ontario government has realized that their is no stopping the online gambling industry. With
other provinces moving toward legalization, it would only seem appropriate that they legalize
the activity as well. The concensus is that the laws need to be changed to support online
gambling and the province needs to be competitive in the online gambling field in order to
keep residents gambling at state-owned gambling sites and not sending their money offshore.
