A man who previously admitted to stealing over $1.5 million in chips from the Bellagio Casino in
Las Vegas is now facing a minimum of 3 years in prison. Anthony Carleo, 29, pleaded guilty to
being the “Biker Bandit” who had sped away on a motorcyle last December 14th after robbing
the casino. He admitted to the robbery and assault with a deadly weapon, but several of the
charges were dropped in exchange for his guilty plea to stealing the funds from the casino.

Upon sentencing on August 23rd, the judge could give Carleo a minimum of 3 years in jail.
He also pleaded guilty to stealing from another Las Vegas casino before the Bellagio heist.
Carleo was arrested after selling several $25,000 casino chips from the robbery to an
undercover detective. He met with the undercover officer five time before being arrested.

Nevada is the one state in the US that is primarily driven by the gambling industry. The state
relies on revenue from gambling establishments to boost the economy. Las Vegas is the gambling
capital of the country, and most of the US land-based gambling takes place within Las Vegas.

While gambling is important to the state, tourism is equally important. But, their would be
little tourism if the state did not have a variety of casinos for tourists to enjoy. Gambling
plays such a major role in Nevada, that its no surprise that Nevada has now become the first
state within the United States to legalize online gambling. According to news reports,
Governor Brian Sandoval has signed the interactive gaming bill into law which makes
online gambling legal on a state level, while it still remains unregulated on the federal level.

Now that an interactive gaming bill has been signed into law, the casinos in Las Vegas
need to put pressure on the federal government to legalize and regulate the online
gambling industry on a federal level. While numerous Las Vegas casinos have attempted
to enter the online gambling market and failed, Harrah’s Entertainment is the only
Nevada company to successfully launch and profit from online gambling operations
licensed within the UK and Europe. As of right now, Nevada will only be able to
licence new online gambling operators for online gambling within the state.
