Ontario has made the decision to become the third province in Canada to begin offering
online gambling services to its citizens. While other provinces have experienced problems
when moving into this new market, Ontario hopes to get it right the first time around.

They have begun the initial stages of offering online gambling in Ontario. They hope to
safely and securely offer Internet betting in the province by 2012. The government hope to
cut over $200 million in annual expenses and bring in an additional $100 million in revenue
via an online casino. British Colombia and Quebec have already launched online casinos.

Saskatchewan has recently expressed its desire to launch an online casino within the province,
but their have been legal challenges that have slowed the process. It is estimated that over
$1 billion a year is being spent by Canadians at online casinos that are licensed offshore.

While provincial governments in Canada hope to generate revenue from the online gambling
market, their is speculation that many Canadians will continue to gamble offshore where their are
more opportunities to gamble, and a huge variety of games that Canadians can play.

Ontario hopes to capture some extra revenue to pay for schools, hospitals, and other public
programs in the country. They have hired a British consulting firm, Sports Gaming Limited,
to help protect players from any risk or problem that may be experienced by gambling online.

British Colombia relaunched their online casino, PlayNow.com on Thursday, and it encountered technical problems again. This is the second time that the online casino has been knocked offline. After its initial launch, the online casino went offline due to technical difficulties for 35 days.

On Thursday, players attempted to visit the relaunched online casino but only found a webpage that said the site was unavailable. This is a good example of why governments should not be allowed to open their own online casinos. They should be able to issue licenses to reputable
operators with years of experience in the gambling industry, but never launch their own.

On Friday morning, the online casino site was functioning once again. Nobody really knows how long the casino will remain online this time. PlayNow.com has announced that they have fixed the problems with the casino server, and that the casino is now ready to accept new players.
