Switzerland Considers Legal Online Gambling

It is being reported that the Swiss government is in the process of changing it’s
online gambling laws. Switzerland is not a part of the European Union, and without
the pressure of the EU to legalize online gambling, it’s interesting to see a
government begin to liberalize their gambling laws voluntarily.

A recent report is quoted as stating that, “The Swiss liberalization plans show how
the pressure of foreign online offers on state operators and income forces some states
to rethink the existing regulations,” Switzerland’s gambling monopoly is facing pressure
from offshore operators and the government is worried about the reduction in revenue.

Instead of banning online gambling to protect their own interests like so many other
governments, they seem to be taking the most logical approach by liberalizing their
laws and drafting legislation that will legalize online gambling and help them
to take back the revenue that they are currently losing to the offshore operators.
