
The high court in South Africa has made it illegal to gamble, promote, or operate an online casino from within the country. The reaction to the online gambling ban has some citizens very angry. One online casino operator within the country has decided to fight back by launching an appeal. Piggs Peak, a South African based online casino operator that also owns a land-based casino within the country, is determined to fight for every South African citizens right to gamble online.
Operations Director for Piggs Peak Casino, Lew Saul Koor said, “On consultation with our senior legal team, we believe that appealing this finding is the right course because we feel it’s totally incorrect. This appeal will allow the company to keep its online casino operational during the appeal process.” Anyone that knowingly gambles at an online casino, operates an online casino, or markets for an online casino within South Africa could now receive up to 10 years in jail.
