The Russian ban on land-based casinos and gambling when into effect over the summer and it has resulted in a surge of Russian citizens playing at the online casinos. Moscow officials have admitted that the country has seen a jump in substitute gambling methods. “We are seriously concerned about the rise of surrogate technologies,” stated the city’s deputy mayor, Sergei Baidakov.



Russia created their own mess when they banned all land-based casino gambling. They are no longer generating tax revenue from gambling, because all of the establishments have been shutdown. Russians are now gambling at the online casinos that are hosted offshore, and no tax revenue is being generated for the Russian government.



Internet cafes are offering access to online casinos and it has been reported that the number of patrons in these establishments has tripled since July 1st when the new law was implemented. Politicians are looking for ways to shutdown these cafes, forcing Russians to only gamble by playing the government lottery.
