Online Gambling Experts Expect Second UIGEA Delay

Industry experts are expecting that the US Treasury Department will delay the implementation
of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act for another 6 months starting on June 1st.
As March begins, Congress only has three months to move bills to regulate online gambling through the committees, on to the House and Senate floor, and then over to the President.

Experts believe that the first UIGEA delay will run out before any online gambling legislation
passes through both branches of Congress. As more and more politicians begin to support the
various online gambling bills, it’s highly likely that the US Treasury will delay the UIGEA
until December 1st. With online gambling regulation on the horizon and the financial crisis
still having effects on the US job market, the US Treasury does not want to burden the
financial industry with new regulations that will cost millions of dollars to fully implement.

It will be interesting to see if their is any reaction by Senator Kyl, an architect of the
UIGEA, if the US Treasury Department decides to delay the UIGEA implementation once again.
It has been rumored that Senator Kyl delayed the appointments of several key US Treasury
officials due to the US Treasury delaying the implementation of the UIGEA in December 2009.
