Their is a double standard when it comes to online gambling in the US. It’s sad to see a government go after some forms of online gambling, while disregarding other forms. The state of Illinois has already licensed online gambling for the horse racing industry, and other states will soon be offering online gambling to their residents. The DOJ continues to attack sports betting and online casino companies that are operating offshore under the blanket that online gambling is illegal, while they completely ignore the online betting operations taking place in the US.
With the UIGEA delayed in December and more co-sponsors being added to Barney Frank’s bill to legalize the online casino industry, players should remain hopeful that online casinos will soon be put on a level playing field with online horse racing and fantasy sports. Unfortunately, the DOJ and some republican members of Congress don’t want to play fair, but the public outcry for legalized online gambling may eventually silence their efforts and give us back our freedom to gamble online.
