Massachusetts has been struggling with legal gambling legislation for quite some time. The state
is now attempting to expand gambling within its borders. Unfortunately, the new legislation that
has been proposed will outlaw all forms of online gambling by residents of Massachusetts. The
new legislation would even go so far as making any form of online gambling, a criminal activity.
It’s absurd to think that residents can gamble at a land-based casino without any problems, but
if they dare gamble online, they could be put in jail for breaking this new proposed law. In
this proposed law, a resident that gambles online could be sent to jail for up to 2 years
and fined $25,000. You could go to jail for playing a casino game over the Internet, but
nothing happens to you if you spend every last penny of your savings at a land-based casino.
The criminal aspect is a fear tactic to force residents to gamble at state sanctioned casinos
that pay a heavy tax to the state government. This new proposed law would definitely bring in
much needed revenue for the state of Massachusetts, but it would also take away the freedom
of a resident to gamble at an online casino with better odds, better payouts, and better games.
