Legal Online Casinos in Quebec

As of September 2010, Loto-Quebec will be able to set-up a legal online casino within Quebec. The decision to offer online casino gambling has received massive criticism from anti-gambling groups and physicians that are fearful of an increase in gambling addiction within Quebec. Canada has legalized online gambling but only the provincial governments are licensed to operate a casino within the country. Other provinces are already moving to legalize casinos.

Supporters of the legalized online casino scene have stated that their are no hardcore statistics
that show any increase in gambling addiction in countries where online gambling has been regulated. Loto-Quebec will institute strict age limits and weekly gambling limits for all online gamblers. “This is a way for us to channel the gaming offering in a controlled circuit and environment whose integrity will be beyond reproach,” said Loto-Quebec CEO, Alain Cousineau.

Some of the provinces have already banned online gambling. The legalization of online gambling
in select Canadian provinces may provide those banned provinces with a bigger problem later on.
The advantage of legal online gambling is that the expected return for the government is over
$50 million in the next few years. This is an extra $50 million that some provinces won’t get
because they’ve decided to ban online casinos and protect the interests of the land casinos.
