The Danish gambling monopoly is opening it’s doors to Party Gaming. Since 1948,
the Dansk Spil company has held the monopoly over all casino games in Denmark.
The Danish government has 80% ownership in this company, and they’ve been
protecting gambling interests in Denmark for over 60 years.
The government has recently decided that it will liberalize the online gaming
market and draft legislation that will allow foreign operators to accept bets
from Danish citizens. As of right now, Danes can only legally gamble online
within the one online gambling site that is owned by the Dansk Spil company.
With new changes on the horizon, Dansk Spil has already signed a 5-year contract
with Party Gaming, which allows Party Gaming to offer their casino and poker
services through the Dansk Spil gaming site. The existing site already has
a member base of roughly 500,000 players and it will put Party Gaming at an
advantage when the new rules that allow foreign operators are signed into law.
It should be noted that many of the online casino operators continue to
accept Danish players and Danish gamblers continue to visit foreign online
casinos. That being said, Party Gaming still has an advantage because they
are now the only offshore casino operator to legally accept Danish players.
