China has done everything it can to destroy the online gambling industry within its own borders. Online gambling operators have been trying to acquire licensing to offer gambling to chinese citizens but the government doesn’t seem interested. The government has already stated that they will do everything that they can to stomp out online gambling within their country. They’ve already arrested gambling operators, payment processors, and even online gambling advertisers.
China’s big online gambling surprise will be that they cannot stop foreign operators from gaining new players from China. While they can restrict their own citizens by threatening severe punishment for anyone that decides to gamble over the Internet, they will be helpless to stop online gambling operators that are licensed in an offshore jurisdiction far away from China.
The chinese government holds the gambling monopoly within the country. The only legal form of gambling is to play the national lottery or take a trip to Macau. You cannot play any form of gambling over the Internet from within the country, and many citizens can’t even visit online gambling web sites due to the government’s control of ISPs and other telecom companies.
