China is a very unique country, especially when it comes to the freedom of its citizens. In 1949,
the communist party came to power and officially outlawed all forms of gambling within the country. Chinese citizens are only allowed to gamble on the government owned lottery.
China has permitted gambling within the territory of Macau that was once a Portuguese colony. Macau is now considered the Las Vegas of Asia with some of the Las Vegas casino giants owning casinos there. Unfortunately, the laws that govern Macau, do not apply to the mainland.
The Chinese government has recently acknowledged that its fed up with online gambling, and they are doing everything that they can to destroy the industry. Online gambling in China has gone deeper underground as the government continues to attack the industry on every front. New laws have been passed that requires the telecommunications carriers and ISPs to assist the authorities with investigations that relate to the online gambling industry in China.
If internet censorship wasn’t enough, now Chinese citizens need to be concerned with ISPs
turning over records of their internet activities to authorities for possible prosecution.
Unfortunately, the Chinese government thinks that they know what’s best for their people.
