The European Union will soon make its customary rotation of the presidency. The current
President has done little to address the online gambling laws of the European Union. In
July, an official from Belgium will be the next President of the European Union and it is
likely that Belgium will work to clarify the existing laws with regard to online gambling.
Belgium, Italy, and France have liberalized their gambling laws in order to allow operators
to offer online gambling to their citizens. One grey area of the EU gambling laws relates
to online poker. Some EU countries have accepted online poker while others have banned it.
With America on the verge of regulating the online gambling industry and other countries
slowly moving toward regulation, the Belgian President will definitely push for clarification
of existing laws to find any opportunities that might be available for the online gambling
operators licensed within his country. Someday, Europe will open up the market and let citizens
gamble at any of the online casinos that are licensed in any country within the European Union.
