
The Australian government continues to restricts its own citizens from accessing online casino gambling sites. It refuses to change its current stance, even when pressured by policy advisors to work towards regulating the online casino gambling industry, instead of implementing prohibition. More pressure is being put on the government to cancel the 8 year country-wide ban on online gambling. The Productivity Commission previously requested that the government strike down the 2001 Interactive Gambling Act that made it illegal for Australian residents to gamble online.

They recently stated, “We are not convinced that liberalising online gaming would have benefits for the Australian community which would outweigh the risks of problem gambling”. Their are experts in Australia that believe online gambling could help the economy, create new jobs for local residents, and help fund organizations that help problem gamblers.
