Africa’s Mozambique Makes Online Gambling Legal

african online gambling

The president of Mozambique, an independent African nation, has signed a new revision
into their existing gambling law that legalizes online gambling along with new measures
to permit casinos to be built anywhere within the country. Many of its African neighbors
were surprised by the news that Mozambique has legalized online gambling, especially
when little coverage has been given to the topic. Most people have been focused on
laws being proposed to permit online gambling within the nation of South Africa.

South Africa has a much more sophisticated financial infrastructure to deal with
online gambling, but proposals to legalize gambling in South Africa have been
met with numerous delays, fact finding missions, and way too much caution.
South Africans are anxious for a regulated online gambling industry which
would open up thousands of new jobs for residents, but the government
can’t seem to decide on the best approach to legalize the industry.

Unfortunately, the african nation of Mozambique is not one of the countries
that most westerners are familiar with, and the idea of gambling online from
a country in Africa may not seem as safe or as appealing to American
or European gamblers. This may cause online casino operators to refrain
from setting up their online casino operations within Africa unless
the individual countries offer some major incentives to get them there.

Most of the news coming out of Africa is negative with scammers in Nigeria,
corruption and massive inflation in Zimbabwe, and pirates holding ships
for ransom in other parts of the African continent. Mozambique has taken
a step in the right direction, but they will need to prove that they
can offer a safe, secure, and regulated gaming industry. With so
much conflict in the region, they really have alot of work to do.
