13 Arrested in Malaysian Online Gambling Raid

Police in Malaysia recently arrested 13 individuals which included an Indonesian citizen in an online gambling raid at an Internet cafe and coffee shop. The cafe was offering online gambling as well as mahjong games in Seri Kembangan. The cafe was raided by the gambling & secret societies branch of the national police department after receiving a tip. The manager of the Internet cafe was a 30 year old woman from Indonesia. Their were eleven patrons in the cafe during the raid. Eight of those were men in their 50s that were playing a game of mahjong.

The police seized 17 computers and an undisclosed amount of cash. Any form of online gambling is illegal within Malaysia. Malaysians must travel to Singapore or Macau to enjoy gambling, because the Malaysian government recognizes the laws of Islam which forbids gambling.
